Port artist: Nick Lowe - I have been a fan of Nick Lowe since someone gave me his 'Party of One' record when I was 16. His catalog is like a songwriting bible, and his career trajectory is an instruction on how to be cool. This record has all the best on it - Bill Kirchen, Paul Carrack, Ry Cooder - it's produced by Dave Edmunds too. I still can't decide which is my favorite track, 'Jumbo Ark', which has a fab groove to it, or 'What's Shakin' On The Hill' which is poignant in a way that guts me. A truly wonderful listen. ![]()

Non-Port artist: Allen Touissant - Southern Nights - something about Allen Toussaint's music sets my mind at ease. His piano playing is gentle and soulful, but it always serves the song. His songwriting is beyond (I just recently learned that he wrote the Irma Thomas classic 'It's Raining' under the name Naomi Neville). I like to put on this record and immerse myself in it, even the intersititials between the songs are great. Definitely an album that feeds your soul.![]()
